Trusting God’s Timing: What I Learned When My Plans Didn’t Work Out

Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of having a family.I could see it so clearly, my husband, our children, a warm and joyful home. I even had a secret timeline in my head: by this age, I’d be married… by this age, I’d have my first baby… But life doesn’t always follow…

Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of having a family.
I could see it so clearly, my husband, our children, a warm and joyful home. I even had a secret timeline in my head: by this age, I’d be married… by this age, I’d have my first baby…

But life doesn’t always follow our carefully drawn timelines.
And sometimes, God’s gentle “Not yet” is His most loving answer.

It was during my university years that I gave my life to Christ. One morning, I felt a nudge to read Ecclesiastes “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…”

The words were simple, but my heart didn’t fully understand them. “What do You mean, Lord?” I whispered. I closed my Bible, still holding the question in my heart.

Later that day, through a chain of unexpected events, I found myself reading The Wait by DeVon Franklin and Meagan Good. In it, Franklin shared his choice to trust God’s timing completely.. even when it meant waiting.

As I read, I felt the Holy Spirit speak softly: This is what I’m asking of you. Will you trust Me?

That same day, I bought myself a gold ring. Not for fashion, but as a promise, a reminder that I am precious to God, and His timing is worth the wait.

I also made another decision: to let go of my “perfect age” for marriage and children and instead focus on building my relationship with God. It wasn’t easy. Some days the longing for family was so strong I would cry in my room. On those days, the Holy Spirit met me with comfort, often reminding me of Philippians 1:6 – “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Over time, I realized something: my plans weren’t the point.
The most important thing wasn’t achieving my dream at the “right time” but learning to want what God wants for me. Waiting wasn’t a punishment. It was preparation.

If You’re in the Waiting Too…
Maybe you’re in that place right now. You’ve prayed. You’ve hoped. You’ve watched others get what you’re still waiting for. And it hurts.

But friend, I want you to know: God’s timing is never late. Waiting does not mean He’s forgotten you. Sometimes, the most beautiful stories are the ones we never planned for ourselves.

One thing that anchored me in my waiting was having a space to pour my heart out to God, my prayers, my gratitude, my questions. That’s why I created Rooted: The Intentional Prayer Journal to help women like you stay grounded in God’s presence, even when life feels uncertain.

P.S. If you’ve been praying and waiting for God to move, I’ve created something just for you.
